Pudge waived his no-trade clause to join the Yankees. Sounds like
he really wanted OUT of Detroit.
Good for him, I say. I always liked Pudge, and am glad to see him
going to an actual contender to ride out the rest of his career....
even if it is the "Evil Empire".

What good would it have done him to not waive the clause? Why stay on a team
that no longer wants you. Nothing to do with wanting out of Detroit so bad. >> Stay informed about: Pudge to the Yankees... |

Especially if that team is this seasons Tigers.
Time to get out of Dodge (or Detroit, in this case).

Yeah, just like Santana... both bolted for New York. >> Stay informed about: Pudge to the Yankees... |

I think this is fine for the Tigers. They address a glaring need (bullpen
help) and sacrafice a guy who did not want to be here, replace him with a
guy (Inge) with similar numbers. My biggest concern is backup catcher. >> Stay informed about: Pudge to the Yankees... |

Santana would have gone wherever the biggest paycheck was,
and I can't say I blame him at all. That's just the business of
baseball.
Just like Pudge going where is best for him.

Isn't Inge THE backup catcher?

I would rather have seen them trade for some prospects. The Yankees have a
history of giving up too much in trade, so why not take advantage of that?
It's not like the lack of a frontline closer has been *THE* problem this
season, and, reallistically, this season is over. Farnsworth likely won't be
back next year anyway. >> Stay informed about: Pudge to the Yankees... |

Ha Ha He He, that's a laugh. When was Binge ever in the
Home Run Derby? Has the puke any intangibles? Ha Ha Ho Ho.
He's a downgrade and now that he'll be playing every day,
he'll be slacking off even more. He He Haw.
My biggest concern is backup catcher.

Word is that it was Dombrowski who contacted the MFYs, seeking Farnsworth.
Unless he seriously believes he can sign Farnsworth for next season, this
makes no sense to me. Sure, they wanted to escape Pudge's expensive option
for '09, but I don't think there would have been a lack of ffers... >> Stay informed about: Pudge to the Yankees... |

First, I don't believe Pudge had a "no trade" clause in his contract.
Secondly, he was on borrowed time this season anyway. The Tigers had
picked up his option at the beginning of this season and he would have
been a free agent at the end of this season. With Inge cutting into
his time as a catcher Pudge and Dombrowski realized he wasn't going to
be resigned at the end of this season anyway. Might as well get
something of value for him plus Pudge may have more luck resigning
with the Yankess if Posada isn't healthy next season. So this is a
win-win situation.
Tigers recalled Dane Sardinha to be Inge's backup. He did alright
earlier this season when Pudge was injurded and Inge was catching.

Well, the Tigers need immediate bullpen help and Farnsworth is a
former Tiger and familiar with the organization, so it's a quick fit.
Pudge wanted out of Detroit, and it was probably good to deal him
now and clean up some of the chemistry in the clubhouse.
If Farnsworth works out, Dumbrowski will probably throw enough
money at him to keep him around for the next few seasons. If not,
they part ways and Dumbrowski and Co. look elsewhere for more
bullpen help in the off season.
