The formal proposal to replace baseballs with golf balls has been
rejected -- or so goes the rumor mill. How do these rumors get
started anyway? To really appreciate this innovation, one has to try
hitting a golf ball with a baseball bat -- wood or aluminum will do.
You dont need a pitcher to understand this concept. Just toss one of
those Titelists up in front of you and give it a good whack --
probably best to do it outdoors. Now watch the majestic flight of the
ball as it soon disappears from view. Mighty fine experience aint it?
Hard to imagine why anybody would be against this idea. The new rules
would require that any ball hit out of the ball park must be followed
immediately by the word Fore! Hotshot grounders would take a little
getting used to, but with protective vests, I imagine infielders would
get the hang of it in no time.

Oh well, maybe next year.

Hitting golf balls with a cricket bat can be even more fun. Loads of space
required for that one! Smile

I imagine it does require some space. Hitting golf balls with a
tennis racket is also pretty sweet, but it plays havoc with the
strings after a while.

When I was stoned during the summer I conceived an idea to alter the
baseball diamond so that instead of one diamond there are two - one
infront and one behind. In effect, the game would become a hybrid of
cricket and baseball. Perhaps called "Crickball".

Not bad. Tell us more. In the meantime, I have another baseball
innovation. <waits for applause to die down> This will be called
three-dimensional baseball. Basically, the diamond is elevated --
well, the base paths are anyway. No more trotting to first, as first
will now be up one flight of stairs. A three inch wide plank will
connect first to second, while a slide from second to third will make
up for the slowness of the previous traverse. This will bring us back
to ground level for a conventional path to home -- I wouldnt want to
completely do away with the old game. Golf balls will be a must for
getting a single up those flight of stairs will be mighty tough.

Thats interesting, I had a similar thought. I was hypothesising (sp?)
about what baseball would like like in the future (assuming mankind
has one - doubtful). Baseball in an anti-gravity area, but as I'm not
too hot on cartesian co-ordinates I left it there...
