Come on folks, where's the chatter? Last year at the break weren't the
Indians like 14 games out or some such thing? This year, they're in a first
place tie with Detroit. The second half looks so promising!

Well, let's see....
While the Tigers took a series from the Indians, and then swept the Red Sox,
the Tribe lost series to the Tigers and Blue Jays.

Wedge continues to use Trot Nixon (227 ABs) in lieu of Francisco and
Gutierrez (28 and 67 ABs).
Maybe he was hoping Nixon would get hot, so as to trade him. Dunno.
Middle relief is awful, the 4 and 5 starters spotty, and Hafner is having a
bad year.

On the flip side.....
Borowski has been very successful, Carmona and Byrd huge surprises.
Peralta has had a good year.
The starting pitching overall has been what it was supposed to be, the
strength of the team.

I don't have a Time Machine to see into August, but I think the Tigers have
the better
team, and they have a better manager. Not a shot at Wedge, but Leyland is
one of the
best in the game. If Hafner gets hot, and Lee or Sowers rebounds, that
changes things,
as would significant injuries on either side.

Hitting and scoring runs.
The Tigers BA is .290, the Tribe, .272.
The Tigers have scored 512 runs, the Tribe 471.
The Tribe, though much more selective at the plate than in the past, has
over 100 more Ks.
Hafner turning it around in the 2nd half, and Nixon sitting more could very
well change things.

I think pitching and fielding are pretty much a wash, although I like the
Tigers up the middle
defensively, mostly due to Ivan Rodriguez.

I will never forget the time I saw him pick a Red Sox off third base while
sitting in Fenway.
Great play, but the Fenway fans didn't care for my reaction. I wasn't happy
seconds later as
the semi-cold beer I'd had was spilled all over. They didn't sell beer in
the stands, either, so
I had to make yet-another trip into the stadium's interior to get another.

How about you take a look at when I posted it, genius. When I posted it,
Sunday morning, they WERE in a first place tie. Let me guess--you're a
Tigers fan who thinks that Detroit is now "in the driver's seat" with that
BIG 1-game lead.

LOL, remember that story in the Detoit papers saying that the last time the
Tigers had a 2 game lead? Where do they find those writers?

Should be a tight one all the way, which I think might help both teams, keep
them on their toes.

and should help Indian ticket sales --- especially against the Tigers,
If the Chicago Whitesox could pick it up the automobile association
could organize bus trips.
