There has been some discussion about whether to blame the offense or the
pitching for the post All-star break funk the Sox are in. Here is a quick
and dirty look...
Pre break - 53-33 record. 5.65 runs per game scored and 4.80 allowed.
Post break - 14-15 record. 5.14 runs per game scored and 5.48 allowed.
The offense is about .5 runs a game worse while the pitching is giving up
about .7 runs per game more. Neither is doing well. However, 5.14 runs per
game would still be 7th in the A.L. for the whole season. 5.48 runs allowed
would be 12th, beating only K.C. and Baltimore. So, the offense, while
slumping is still a decent offense. The pitching has sunk to one of the
worst in the league...
