I pray 2006 will be the year the Cubs win the World Series. Before
you laugh or spit, read my reasoning.
After the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series, many obituaries in New
England noted that the deceased was a life-long Red Sox fan. The
inference to be drawn was that they had waited for the Red Sox to
win it all before they passed away.
The Cubs, better known as the Chicago Chokers, have not won a World
Series since 1908 and have not been in a World Series since 1945.
Putting it better they haven't won a World Series since they left
the South Side to move into the Wrigley Graveyard
If they were to win it all in 2006, just think about the economic
ramifications brought about by a massive demise of Cubs fans.
- an increase in available minimum wage jobs;
- an increase in available psychiatric hospital bed space;
- an increase in available curb space on skid row;
- a decrease in gross welfare benefits;
- a decrease in sales of fortified wine and malt liquor;
- a decrease in the sales of depression medications;
- a decrease in psychiatric patient loads;
- a decrease in waiting time at unemployment offices; and
- a decrease in panhandlers.
