Terms per Baseball America. Apparently, it’s NOT a major league
contract. The Giants had the cash to pay up front. Largest straight cash
bonus in draft history. And, of course, more than double the Giants’
previous record for any amateur player.
It’s $200,000 more than what Matt Wieters, another junior college
catcher, got in the same slot last year. The Giants understood $6
million was the lowest possible price when they took Posey in June.
We’re supposed to talk to Posey, Sabean and Bobby Evans in a conference
call shortly.
