My interest in the game, if any, is 100% about what it used to mean when I
was growing up. Some years that's enough to get me to watch an inning or
two. This year, it wasn't.

Yes, not true. Just as likely, though, is that its an exhibition game and
the players don't put nearly as much thought into strategy and scouting as
they do in a regular game. That was my point.

High school kids. AAU league - actually a better level of competition than
most HS games. They play all year long.

I think part of it is due to age. I was an adult by the '80's, and it
wasn't what it had been in the '60's and '70's.

I concede the point but am of mixed mind about it. In a National League
game, AROD would've been held at 3rd, because of the guy in Right. But
an AL All-Star base coach waved AROD home, and we all (mostly--not you)
got to see that Junior's still got a gun. Play at the plate--my
opinion--best play in sports, though that one not nearly so.

And I've always thought that Rose and Fosse was a chickensh_t thing. It
was a play at the plate in an _exhibition_ that cost Fosse his career.
Yet we still talk about Hubbel and Williams and Jackson and Lynn's
all-star doin's.

So, bottom of the 9th, 2 out, bases full, winning run on 2nd, pitcher
wild, crowd screaming, Puhols on the bench, and you're not interested in
how it comes out?

I don't care if it's Little League or Slow Pitch. I am...and I like it
better when I see it.

There was a time when the game was of interest. It just isn't anymore. And
yes, Pete Rose's cheapshot on Ray Fosse was chickenshit. That's Pete Rose,
though. Always gave 110% chickenshit in everything he did.

I didn't watch the game, so it was a non-event for me.

The All-Star game was almost as big a deal as the World Series when I
was a kid in the '60s and '70s.

Interleague play doesn't help. Then again, maybe today's kids still
feel the way we did about the All-Star Game.
