The A's have too many players that deserve major league roster spots. Come
Sunday, we'll have too many starters: Blanton, Duchscherer, Gaudin, Eveland,
Smith, and Harden. We already have too many hitters: the Mike Sweeney/Frank
Thomas/Jack Cust logjam is a mess.

I think we'll trade 2 players away very soon for one in return. One pitcher
and one hitter. The trade bait is probably Blanton, Duchscherer, Gaudin,
Sweeney, and Cust. I bet two of them will be on other teams by the end of
the month when Chavez, Buck, Foulke, and Harden are back in action.

Smart GMs working with a budget and looking to get to the postseason don't
keep quality MLB talent in the minors. They also don't wait until July when
there are games to be won in May and June. I think Beane will make a trade
soon.

Top post, sorry.

True, A's have too many players. Not a bad thing though. However, I have a
feeling that the A's are waiting to get Bonds for a song, and they will send
Cust to a team that would rather have Cust than Bonds. I know Bonds will
want more money than what Cust gets, but in the end Bonds will not get what
he anticipates, and he just might take the chance to play over money. But
then there's Frank Thomas. Can you imagine a team that had Hurt and Bonds?
That would fill the friggin stands, and that's what the A's need, and it
really wouldn't mess with the positives going on too much as long as Bonds
agrees to basically be transparent in the ego department. Bonds wants a
ring. the A's are looking good. They have Hurt. They have youth. They have
pitching. They have spent time in first. If the A's can get Bonds for 5 Mil
I say go for it and let Cust go elsewhere. I know Cust got AL Player of the
second on the stopwatch, but he will not carry the A's as the power guy. I
can't stand Bonds, but maybe he could be the difference between us and the
Angels.

Not a problem. Harden will break again within 2-3 starts.

As I already mentioned, Harden is a non-factor, Chavez will be out
longer I think, and Foulke is near the end of his career and shouldn't
be accommdated too much at the cost of a good young player.

Only works if other GMs are buying... and that usually doesn't get
serious until July.

Well there are a lot of teams that fully intend to win this year, but
are under-performing (Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto, Colorado, San
Diego, Yankees, Mets, all come to mind). Some or all those clubs
should be shopping right now.

The A's have announced that Gaudin is moving to the bullpen to make room
for Harden. But I'm not counting on Harden staying healthy.

A few stats anyone could look up on the A's pitching:
- the team ERA of 3.09 is best in the majors (Toronto is next at 3.32).
- 9 pitchers (if one includes Harden and Foulke) have ERA below 3.09
- the team K/BB ratio is 2.4 to 1.
- most of the pitchers are age 27 or younger.

Not bad after nearly a quarter of the season.
