Now Finley's got the 12 and now Tracy's wearing Lo Duca's 16. Of course the
Dodgers weren't going to retire Lo Duca's 16... But it shouldn't be given
out right after a fan-favorite departs.
Changing the subject I always thought that #6 and #34 were "unissued," not
retired. But last year Jolbert Cabrera was wering 6 and now Mayne is wearing
it. IMO, #6 should be retired way before Don Sutton's #20. I don't agree
with the Dodgers' "only HOF inductees have numbers retired, except for
Gilliam's #19."
And speaking of #19... I GUARANTEE that no one will be wearing #19 for the
Padres even though the number isn't officially retired. I would think San
Diego is waiting for Tony Gwynn's inevitable HOF induction. Also speaking of
the Padres they have two non-HOF numbers reitred: Randy Jones and STEVE
GARVEY.
You look at what #6 Steve Garvey meant to the Dodgers for that many years
and what the impact #34 Fernando Valenzuela had on Los Angeles, I think both
their numbers should be retired. Sutton deserves his HOF induction but I
still don't think his #20 should be retired by the Dodgers.
