This organization is a joke.
J. Van B. : GIVE IT UP. It may be too late, but hey it can't be worse if you
tried to make him a hitter again. It was the dumbest move ever by the
pirates to take this guy at #1 and then think they were such geniuses that
they could convert him into a top pitcher just because his lively arm got
him success at the lower level. These morons couldn't develop full time
pitchers taken at #1. No wonder, JVB is a mess at the major league level.
The TRADE:
Sure, I was one of those who believed that you might as well trade the stars
and get some quality prospects. But you still got some of the same
management in the scouting department as before. THis stinks of the Jagr
trade when Beech was praised as "someone who could be a second line
centerman if things went well" and he was supposed to be the top player in
that trade. We traded TWO of the highly desired commodities this season. We
need to get at least two impact players out of those 4. What are the chances
looking at the Pirates track record. Though one can be superstitious and
think it's the Rincon trade that keeps on giving - Giles, Bay, Perez, and
then Perez for Nady, Nady for two or three of these 4 new guys.
My question to the other organizations is this - if you thought what Pirates
got in return was a joke, why didn't you try harder to beat that? Or did the
Pirates have an inflated sense of the Yanks prospects? Why even bother
packaging the two together if that's all you can get? And this bullshit
about "oh he has a strong arm" is tired old story with the Pirates draft.
If you don't get at least one sure thing in a trade like this, what is the
point? I would have just stayed put and let the fans at least enjoy their
best outfield since the Bonds days.
I don't know of a single Yankees fan who is ecstatic about this trade.
