Just my usual rant in hopes that the Astros will trade/sign a proven
run producer for 2006. The Astros could really have used someone like
Sean Casey because I fear Bagwell's career is over.

Casey is *not* the answer to the Astros' ills. We already have someone
to plug into 1B when and if Bagwell can't play: Lance Berkman. Houston
needs someone who can hit well and play OF better than Berkman. The
latter is the (very) easy part; the former is what will cost the Astros
some money.

Casey
AVG .305
OBP .371
SLG .462

Berkman
AVG .302
OBP .416
SLG .557

Besides, Casey has that OBNOXIOUS pre-pitch ritual. EVERY FREAKING
PITCH! I couldn't handle it. It's bad enough putting up with it just
when we play him. But every game? I'd throw up.

Casey and Nomah. They both need to just get IN the freaking box and
STAY THERE.

I'm glad he's not coming to Houston for your sake, Cutch. Too bad he'll
still be in the Central Division, so you'll see him in ~16 games (max)
next season.

His $8.5-million salary next season would've presented big problems for
the Astros, especially if Clemens ends up signing. The deal with
Pittsburgh means that the Reds can now move Dunn to 1B and free up their
log-jam in the OF, so I'm pretty sure he's not going to another team now.

Heh, I'd really like to play in your softball league now that I know how
to yank your chain.

I'm really surprised Pittsburgh would sign the guy. I hope for their
sake it is an incentive type deal. If I were them, I'd spend money on
pitching and let the offense figure itself out every 2 or 3 years and
contend then... before the young fielder-types get tenure. Why buy a
guy like Casey? they've got much less money than we do.

I pitch, dood.

Do that to me and I'll toss that HEATER right at your coconut!
....in a 15 foot high arc.

(It's a bitch trying to establish the inside of the plate in slow
pitch...)

I'm not. He grew up in the Pittsburgh area. They've also had a lot of
inconsistency at 1B in the last few seasons -- Daryle Lard, et al. The
veteran presence in the clubhouse and line-up can't hurt, either.

> I hope for their sake it is an incentive type deal.

He's still under the terms of his contract with the Reds (extended via
option in October of 2004), which expires at the end of 2006. I won't be
surprised if the Pirates sign him beyond that, especially if he'll play
for a hometeam discount.

They should re-focus on the management side of things. I don't think
Littlefield (GM) and Tracy (manager) will turn the team around. I
thought McClendon was a good fit there considering the young talent they
had. I don't know how Tracy will do any better. He certainly didn't do
much with the talent the Dodgers had last year.

I'm shaking in my shoes. Actually, ot's just shivering. Damn, it's cold
today.

How often have you thrown it behind the hitter?

Once that I can think of. In a league at work. Guy I knew that had
played some ball. I was playing the wind (which was moving the ball at
the batter) and trying to get the ball inside. He hit the next pitch
up the middle and almost parted my hair. Says he, "I only want to see
if I can reach the fence. Don't get cute." After that, I didn't.

He sounds like Jim Rome's "softball guy." Did he try to take out the
20-something receptionist with a hard slide at 2B and cause her to need
ACL surgery?
