Beltran is the least of the Mets problem. Actually he should be
battling 3rd, and Wright 4th, to get more runners on base for David
who is the Mets best hitter:
Beltran Avg Obp Slg Ops
2008 .273 .374 .485 .858
Career .280 .356 .496 .851
Actually Wright has been more of a disappointment than Beltran, after
the great 2007 season he had (.325/.416/.546)
Wright Avg Obp Slg Ops
2008 .288 .382 .502 .883
Career .308 .387 .527 .914
Not bad numbers, but way below the expectations. The problem?
1) Church (.300/.365/.522) and Alou (.347/.389/.388) can't stay
healthy (in Moises case, it was obvious...he is what 70 years old?).
Mets LFers are hitting a putrid: .230/.287/.307/2HR/31rbi/309Ab) in a
position that is focus on offense.
2) Delgado is finished (.231/.310/.417) and should be hitting 7th.
Castillo (.253/.358/.325) who has no power (and can't run because of
his knees), should be hitting 8th. And both Delgado and Castillo
should bat lower because they can't get rid of them. Bring Carp, let
Easily play 2nd and plan for 2009.
Hopefully Church will actually stay healthy for the rest of the season
and continue to hit like he did early. But with the way the season has
gone, I wouldn't be surprise to see him regress. After all, we are
talking about the Mets here. Alou, I don't expect him at all
(although he could probably return for the Phillies series next week).
