The PawSox jumped on Charlotte starter Heath Phillips early, scoring 5 runs
in the first inning, coasting to a 7-4 win. Ed Rogers, David Murphy and Jeff
Bailey hit consecutive singles and Luis Jimenez knocked Rogers home with a
sacrifice fly. After George Kottaras walked, Brandon Moss made the most of
his first Triple-A at bat, crushing a grand slam over the left field fence.
The Sox added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth. Kason Gabbard (1-0)
earned the win. Gabbard worked 5 innings, fanning three. He surrendered a
two run homer to Andy Gonzalez in the second. Brian Corey, Mike Timlin (M.L.
rehab) and Manny Delcarmen went the rest of the way. Timlin worked a
scoreless seventh, throwing 17 pitches, 10 for strikes. Luis Terrero hit a
two run homer to cap the Knight's scoring. It came off Delcarmen. Manny
struck out 4 in two innings.
