I'm not stating whether the bail-out is necessary or not but it's
interesting to hear how Paulson and Dubya came up with the $700
Billion.

According to Forbes, a Treasury spokesperson said: "It's not based on
any particular data point. We just wanted to choose a really large
number."

Another example of how the Bush Administration is driving the country
into the ground. It's just one crisis after another from 9/11 to
America losing its image in the world as the beacon of liberty and
justice to an economic crisis th e likes of which we've never seen
before (and I'm just naming the first three that come to mind -- what
a nightmare Bush has fostered on to this proud country. November 4th
cannot come too soon).

Didn't you get the memo?

The Republican ticket is Bush/Palin.

Running against Bush are ya? Well hell with statements like that he's
most certainly going to lose on election day yes?
You do know that he will remain in office until January of next year
don't ya?
Maybe not.

BTW, you don't have a clue as to economic crisis.
Apparently you're too young dumb and full of come to have actually
been around when this country really was in serious trouble.
But then what else is to be expected from a UCSB student.
Guess you're aceing your revisionist history course yes?

Or are you Becky playing around on Daddy Dave's PC?

Very clever. I know you aren't smart enough to make that stuff up...care to
attribute your quotes? Or are you a simple plagiarist?

I;ve lived through a hell of a lot worse economic situations in this
country dickless. Have you?
Were you around when we had a wage and price freeze ordered by the
government?
How about when we had double digit unemployment with no perceived end
in sight?
Or how about nationwide gasoline shortages with stations running out
by the droves and cars backed up over a mile at the pumps with gas?
Has the stock market fallen in double digit percentages this go
around?
How about a 22% drop in the Dow?

You idiots have been preaching doom and gloom and the US is coming to
an end for 8 years straight. This country has survived a lot worse
without the likes of you cheering it on?

Stupid little comment on your part seeing as how that's been my

How about a 45% drop in the Dow? 1974. Does that count?

So. You have no answers. Noted. Don't feel too bad. Seems like you have
a lot of company.

Nope. You got it backwards. Do you even read the paper? Watch the news?
Other than Fox?

Pelosi and a majority of the Democrats voted FOR the Presidents plan. The
same plan supported by BOTH presidential candidates. It was the Republicans
that voted against their own leader's (and potential leader's) plan. I'll
admit to being unsure if that was even the right thing to do. Judging by
the precipitous drop in the markets, I'm guessing most on Wall Street
didn't.

To be fair, the Democrats voted 140-95 (60% in favour), while the
Republicans voted 65-133 (33% in favour).

The numbers would indicate that Republican support similar to Democrat
support would have let the bill pass.

Interesting how all of you fools want to point the fingers at the
Republicans rather than question your own party members that
apparently turned on you. If all of the democrats had voted the same
the bill would have passed regardless.
It's also interesting that not one of you idiots care one bit that
your house leader took her little opportunity to point fingers and
rant to try and make her little political points and talk bullshit to
the exact people that she wants to vote her way. Her own arrogance
made her cock sure that the bill was gauranteed to pass so she wanted
to be the big shot. Trying to portray it as though the Republicans
had to vote her way out of some self perceived guilt when they are
every bit as culpable as, if not more than, the Republicans was a very
stupid, childish move. All because she wanted to appear as though she
wielded some kind of real power.
Get your own house in order before screaming blame hotshot.

Oh, I get it! it is the Democrats' fault for not voting unanimously to
overcome the negative Republican votes! Of course!

As opposed to the sensible, mature move of voting against it because the
mean old Pelosi lady criticized them.

You are either painfully stupid, or so far up the Republicans' collective
ass the oxygen to your brain has been cut off.

Don't be stupid -- only a complete lunatic would make comparisons
between those events of the 70s and early 80s and those of the last
three weeks. Since you apparently have no clue, the former events
carried none of the risk with which we are confronted today for the
simple reason that FDIC regulations existed then. Ever hear of a guy
named Reagan? -- he promoted deregulation. Try googling for Reagan
and deregulation -- you'll get at least 434,000 hits.

This is about the most stupid of your comments yet. We're all
cheering for the loss of our savings. Yeah, sure. Are you as stupid
as you really make out to be?

OK. Now you're just repeating yourself. The theory is that by repeating a
lie often enough it becomes accepted as truth. Wrong. PLONK. See ya.

Image isn't everything. This bailout has the potential to create a profit.
They aren't just buying bad debt, they are getting real property in return.
What they do with it is the question. If they hold onto the property long
enough they'll surely profit but they won't do that. They also have the
opportunity to turn a lot of it into federally owned housing which will save
on section 8 charges.
