With the acquisition of John Patterson, are they thinking of putting him in
the rotation, in the bullpen, or in the minors?

Like Randy Choate, he is out of options. he will probably be in long
relief or if he is sent to the minors, the brass probably thinks that
he would have a better change of passing through waivers than Randy
Choate.
