Big Deal. That was 2 years ago. I've never gotten over the fact that
Bob Allison cost the Twins the World Series in 1967.
October 1, 1967. Last game of the regular season. Twins (91-71) at Red
Sox (91-71).
Top of the eighth. Red Sox 5, Twins 2. Two outs. Meat of the order
coming up.
Killebrew singles. Oliva singles to right, Killebrew goes to third.
Runners at first and third. Up steps Allison. Killebrew scores when
Allison singles to left field BUT THEN HE TRIES TO STRETCH IT INTO A
DOUBLE! AT FENWAY! HELLO?! Single to left at Fenway, stretched to a
double? Out by about 10 feet. Yeah, I think the last guy to do that
was Ty Cobb. Bob Allison, career: 84 stolen bases in 154 attempts over
1,541 games. The speedster goin' for second on a single. What's wrong
with guys at first and third and Uhlaender and Carew coming up to bat?
Lonborg was tiring and two lefties were due up. Arrgghh! >> Stay informed about: Pat Burrell, Anybody? |

Punto cost them the game with a poor at-bat in the first inning?
Nobody else had at-bats in that game? Nobody else had a chance to do
anything, or was it just him? They get nine innings and score twice
and that is all Punto's fault?
OK, just for the sake of argument, let's say you are right--let's say
Punto's at-bat in the first cost the Twins the game. Are you just
giving an example, showing that he is generally a buffoon at the
plate, or do you think he should go to prison for that one at bat?
