I just don't get it. He sure looks to me like he has peaked and the rest of
the league has learned how to hit him. His ERA has gone up each of the
three years he has been in the league and he looks awful in spring training.
This guy is really our opening day pitcher? Why not Peavey or Eaton?

Because Lawrence absolutely dominates the Dodgers. His career numbers against
them:

11 games started, 1.95 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 53 K's, 15 BB's for a 7-3 record.

Last season's numbers against them:

4 games started, 1.33 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 14 K's, 4 BB's for a 3-1 record.

He's historically been our best pitcher vs. LA by far.

And all three are going to go vs. LA, so the order doesn't matter much. I'd
rather have Eaton and Peavy vs. their #2 and #3 pitchers. IMHO, it gives us a
better chance of leaving LA with the series.

No offense, but there is a HUGE difference between a long time proven vet
like Hoffman and a junk balling 4th year pitcher. Don't get me wrong - I'd
love to see Lawrence win 15 games and be an anchor on the staff. It's just
that with is stuff, he has absolutely no margin for error. And his off days
seem to be a regulare occurance this spring.

He will be - he just won't be ready to pitch the first game. I think they
also want him to open up Petco Park.
