I've heard many fans call Thome "over-the-hill" from the day that he joined
the Sox in '06.
Being his third season here when he started out with 430 career home runs -
and after leaving Philadelphia having hit only seven the year before, it's
hard to recall number 431 over two years ago. As much as I liked Aaron
Rowand, I think that I can safely say that KW had gotten us fans the better
end of the deal. I hope that Jim can make it to 600 before his career ends,
but #100 for the home fans anytime this weekend would always be appreciated!

That was tremendously good pitching tonight from Mark. Eight strike-outs
shows you're in command and he was.
Let's hope for the same kind of talented pitching tomorrow. There's a lot at
stake.

The Rowand for Thome deal was an absolutly the worst deal of the KW
era (and thats saying something)Since starting hot the first 3 months
he was here Thome has done several stints on the DL and been
incredibley average or maybe a bit below at the plate While Rowand has
played allstar calibre CF (certainly not something you can say for
the plethora of guys we have trotted out there since) and hit very
well (albeit without the power of a Thome)
When Thome is retired (and that should be soon) Rowand will still be
playing great defense in center and hitting .270-290 while we are
still looking for a CF. We could have found a dozen guys to put up the
kind of numbers Thome has. We haven't yet found a replacement for
Rowand
Championships are won with pitching and defense and espcially by being
strong defensivly up the middle and we haven't been since Rowand has
been gone
TERRIBLE trade PERIOD

Playing CF is a joy. A CF always has the right of way - no doubt. That's
what makes an Aaron Rowand.
Thome has slammed thirty-three HRs a year so far. I've watched Rowand a bit,
and he an average hitter with a tinge of power.
It's guys like Rowand that you want to get on base for the "Thome(s)".
I wouldn't under-rate Swisher or even Anderson to give it all on a long
drive.
The advantage of instinct and speed goes to Rowand. But every CF has his
day.
Thome alone can demoralize a team - kind of like Boog Powell used to.

Aaron - like Pods, has served their purpose. They were both a joy to watch,
but I think there's a special allegiance between Thome and Chicago.
I'm sure that he probably would have preferred to play for the Cubs, but
he's homegrown into the A.L. We'll see what injuries he might sustain this
season, but I wouldn't be so pessimistic. At 39 (my guess), he's still quite
resilient.

Maybe Griffey back in '05 or are you talking about Sweeney?
Thome knows his roots. There's something special about that.....

For sentimental reasons I can agree and pitcher's do need to have confidence
in their fielders.
Sometimes Dye even makes some superb plays. I'm impressed with both outfield
corners. I see the outfield as well balanced.
Id I were Ozzie, I might bring Owens up for late inning D - if he's yet
healthy..

If anything, the real problem was that Kenny and Ozzie thought that
Anderson was ready to start in CF and be a star. Had Brian been the
player they thought, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

He isn't and he wont be. Defensivly he is tentativein the field and
(still) doesn't make the plays Rowand would have.
At the plat he was and is still just plain overmatched

Both of the above are Mediocre CF's at bestawisher is hitting .230
something and Abderson not much better than that

He is a power hitter with a bad back and has been on the DL a couple
of times since he has been here. There yeaar previous to Thome coming
here he was out almost a year with a bad back. Back's don't get
better( at best they stay the same as they were)

Who WOULDN'T rather play for the Cubs?!?! Unfortunately, without that
pussy Designated Hitter rule, the Cubs simply have no place for Thome.
He would be a definite downgrade.
