Yes! This could be the year. Of course, I've thought that previous years
also, but I like the team. I liked the team last year too though, and
thought they underachieved somewhat. The difference this year is the
starting pitchers have another year of maturity under their belt. With the
exception of Morris, I think the starters look solid. Then throw in the four
bullpen guys Yates, Marte, Grabow & Capps and that's eight pretty good
pitchers. Question is, can they bridge the gaps in the games with guys like
Dumatrait, Osoria & Meeks? Burnett has still to give up a run at Indy,
combine that with his great spring training and he should be back up soon.
Meeks, who can throw in the mid to upper 90's I'm told, is obviously not
ready, but that Rule-V stuff has them stuck. Morris should be the odd man
out, but his big $$$ probably preclude that.
McCloth is the difference though offensively this year. Gives them a
lead-off guy they haven't had in a long time. He takes pitches, works the
count AND can still hit. Just hoping he's not a mirage. Him and Nady have
carried the team the first two weeks. After the Cubs series I was ready to
throw the TV through the window and write them off as another bust, but
sweeping the Reds and taking Game One at LA has renewed my hope for a
competitive season. As we all know, a loooong way to go though. Still, looks
better than it did a week ago. >> Stay informed about: Nate The Great |

I hear ya gig. I'm hoping for a good season too. I liked what one of the
talking head writers said earlier in the season, i can't remember which one
it was now.....he said they WILL have a winning season because they can't
even lose right, to tie some record for the most consecutive losing seasons?
