Boone is on there because his father works for Jimbo. Langerhans is on
there because Stan thinks anything Braves related must be good. Simple as
that. Good old boys, taken care of their own - funds provided by the
"Revenue Stream" aka the fans. All part of the undocumented "plan" that
Stan claims to have but won't show to anyone.

Well, since Langerhans is making 300k (500k if he can make the team) and
Boone will make a million is he hits a bunch of incentive clauses, I
don't see how that hurts the revenue stream very much.
As for the plan, I won't begrudge it being secret. If your competitors
know what you want, they raise the price. Are you against keeping
business plans secret?

If you honestly believe Boone and Langerhans are part of the plan why sign
them to 1 year deals? I don't believe there is a plan anymore than these
guys would be in it. First rule of marketing is to sell the sizzle - not
the steak.

The plan is an overall strategy to build a winning ball club. It
includes things like build up the farm, build via homegrown rather than
free agents, don't overpay for mediocre free agents, etc. It doesn't
go into ridiculous detail like, sign Ryan Langerhans.
Boone and Langerhans are stop gap measures to insure a little success
this season (I can't believe I put success and Langerhans in the same
sentence. I still don't know why he is needed. Nook is better than
Langerhans.) They are part of any future plan hence the 1 year deal.
Boone's signing propably tells us that Nick Johnson won't be back in any
meaningful way this season and that Zimmerman might not be ready by
opening day.

Why would a 3b - utility infielder like Boone tell us anything about
Johnson? Johnson will come back even though he is the worlds slowest
healer. Zim will be at 3b. Boone was signed for one reason - a favor to
his old man. His signing does not tell us anything about Johnson or
Zimmerman. Justin Maxwell might compete for an OF spot. Yes, another RH
outfielder.

Last season there were rumors that Johnson has degenerative joint
disease and would not return. He was supposed to return last year by
the all-star break. I'll be amazed if he plays this season.
Nepotism or not, Boone has a decent bat and wouldn't be the worst hitter
on this team. Not a bad choice for a utility corner infielder. Not a
bad choice salary-wise either.
