With Mark Mulder likely on the DL for the rest of the season, and Rich
Harden getting beat up in his last start (I appreciate in was on 3 days
rest, but nonetheless) are the A's starting to run out of gas?

Even if they do get to the playoffs, without Mulder they look much less
likely to win it all. The Big Two isn't nearly as scary as the Big Three.

Yes they may be in trouble losing Mulder, but perhaps he will be back
for the playoffs? The A's invoked a new strategy yesterday that may
help with the gap in the pitching rotation: They hit two grand slams
and beat Toronto 17 - 2. Now let's just hope they can keep that pace
up. Smile

From what I've read on ESPN.com and MLB.com seems he's gone for the year,
but it's not definite yet. You never know, but a stress fracture of the hip
sounds like it'll take more than six weeks to get back to a place where he
can pitch again.

It's a good point. Chavez and Tejada are both heating up nicely. Maybe the O
can carry the A's into the playoffs. If they win the wild-card would they
not have to face the Yankees though?? That's a tough sell.

I think you are probably right Kaff when you suggest Mulder is gone
for the year. The A's have a new pitcher, Harden, who is 21 and we
will have to see how he fares. Right now the A's are tied for 1st
place with the Mariners, and also tied with Boston for the wild card
spot. The A's finish the season with a 6 game series against the
Mariners (with Texas sandwiched in between) so it may come down to the
last few games. In some ways this is the best part of baseball --
watching your team's score and seeing what the competition is doing as
the season winds down. BTW, I would like nothing better than to beat
those damn Yankees -- bring em on! Smile
