Post subject: Some Movers Jays Management Could Make To Help Last Place Team

One good move would be to add left-handed batters to the lineup.
Jason Smith and Royce Clayton should be sent down or released
and left-hand batter Russ Adams should be brought up from Syracuse
to platoon with RH batter Frank Thomas who has been a disappointment so far.
Thomas, as one of the slowest base runners in MLB is also a liability here.
Adams could also alternate occasionally with John MacDonald at SS.
The Jays should also promote the best left-handed hitter in their farm
system
to the ML team.

Both present Jays catchers Jason Phillips and Sal Fasano are RH batters.
One of them should be released and the other platooned with a good
LH catcher. They probably have a rookie in the farm system who would fill
the bill.
It does not matter that he is inexperienced, he can learn on the job. The
Jays are
not going to be a contender this year so it doesn't matter.

The current DH Frank Thomas should not only be platooned but should be
dropped
in the batting order to eighth or ninth spot. Frank has obviously lost bat
speed and
has become a relatively easy out. As a base runner he is pathetic.

Another move that would help the Jays is to make J.A. Burnett their closer.
This pitcher has a terrific fast ball and breaking pitches but he seems to
tire after
two or three innings on most occasions. He will hardly ever finish a game
and even
if he goes seven or eight innings with a lead, the Jays will most likely
blow the game
in the eighth or ninth innings as they currently have no "lights out"
reliever. J.P. Ryan
may never return, or if he does, be the effective closer that he was last
year.

Finally, stop having talented outfielder Alex Rios hit from a crouch. He
looks awkward
and uncomfortable in this post ion at the plate and is not getting good
swings.
Let's face it, almost all the great hitters in baseball, pasts and present,
did not crouch at he plate. Not Hank Aaron,
Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, Willy Mays or Alex
Rodriguez.
Rios should stand almost upright, shorten his swing and get more snap into
it. This guy should
be batting .350 with forty home runs by the end of a season.

Frequently it is mentioned that golf
swings and baseball swings are very similar. I have never
in my lifetime seen a professional tournament golfer tee off in a crouch.
