From this morning's P-I:

With the Mariners in the midst of a losing streak, Hargrove apparently
feels more comfortable using a player with more experience like Willie
Bloomquist in center field, even though Jones is seen by most to be
Seattle's center fielder of the future.

When Jones came up, general manager Bill Bavasi and Hargrove agreed
that the then-20-year-old had to play every day to get the most out of
his first stop in the big leagues.

What's changed?

"No one has been telling me who to play," Hargrove said. "Adam will
play in games, and he's going to be a good player."

But what about all this bench time?

"There is a lot of value in the experience you can get on the bench if
you watch and listen and keep your mouth shut. And he's done that."

Does Hargrove have a clue how stupid this sounds? Mabye he should
learn to keep his mouth shut.

It is not stupid at all in my opinion. In an extreme
example,I would not want a rookie nuclear power plant operator fresh out
of technical school coming in and pushing buttons;I would want him to
observe procedures and protocols
first.Same thing with a rookie baseball player.
Granted, the consequences are not as severe like with a nuclear power
mishap as with an error in baseball;the principle is the same. LEARN
before you get thrown to the wolves....

That's a point of view, but if you bring a player up specifically to
give him playing time, why bench him? Willie's qualities are pretty
well known by now.

I have a sneaking suspicion, based on Hargrove's wording, that Jones
may have failed to keep his mouth shut, which truly is a rookie
mistake.

Best,

I had that exact same feeling.
