Like I said, Bonds isn't drawing people to the park to see a bad team
anymore. They got away with that this year, but that is over now.

I would happily go to a game with you, Steven. How much is your extra
ticket going for?

When I go with a friend, they are my guest!

Of course, I've already got takers for the games I'm going to the rest
of the season Smile.

Steven, who therefore can say he has at least two friends, or rather,
one friend and one son

Probably, but I'd be incredibly surprised if they lower prices in any way.

They won't lower prices until they see a sharp decline in attendance,
which may come next year.

$3,000,000-ish might be reasonable and doable for one mnore year. He
plays basically what a good platoon player plays. If he's holding out
for anywhere near what he's getting this year, I think that's
disproportionate to the amount of time he actually plays and the money
could be spent better elsewhere.

My guess is that they won't drop the official price, but there will be all
kinds of 2 for 1 deals and other sale prices available.

Yes, but the people who up for season tickets won't see any of those
benefits. Those will be for the people who are single ticket purchasers.
And their bottom-line revenue will go down, as it should for a bad team.

What you're missing here is that, as Joe Sheehan said today, he's one of
the best players in baseball. Not the very best, anymore, but the best
hitter in the NL with a weak (but not awful) glove in LF, and he doesn't
play quite full time. Thinking of him as a platoon player is right in
terms of playing time, but he's not a "good" platoon player; he's a
great platoon player.

He's probably not worth $20M any more, but if he basically plays like he
did this year he'd be the biggest bargain in baseball at $3M.

I'd count Gregg as at least one and a half. Wink

Well, the ones who are only interested in watching the record-breaking HR
aren't much of a fan anyway. I think it's nuts to not be interested to go
to the game if it's free. I think Bonds still makes a difference in
attendance after the record, but he's been sitting out a lot more lately,
and is injured now. Even before he got hurt, often times you just don't
know which game he's sitting out (with the exception of day game after night
game), so that would affect a person's decision to go or not.

What team will he sign to for that amount? Both he and the Giants said
"subject not discussed."

I have a sinking feeling that he won't sign anywhere, and that the Giants
will bring him back for some obscene amount because Sabean thinks he got a
bargain.
