<<MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Twins announced Thursday that
they have exercised the club option on catcher Mike Redmond for the
2009 season. Redmond appeared in 38 games for the Twins in 2008,
batting .287 (37-for-129) with six doubles and 12 RBIs.
Redmond, 37, has a career batting average of .292 (604-for-2066) with
108 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs and 231 RBIs in 697 games.>>

What are they paying him, something like $950,000? I think Redmond is
a real catch for the Twins. There aren't many back-up catchers in MLB
who bat near .300, who have his kind of experience, who are fair-to-
good defensively, and who can be had for less than a million dollars.
For what it's worth, it is also claimed that he is a leader in the
clubhouse. For a team whose success is often chalked up to
intangibles, this guy is a gem.

Agree with everything you said. Plus, he leads the league in naked
walks.

He has a reputation for walking around the locker room naked.

Agreed. He likes it with the Twins, and he makes for an adequate
backup for Mauer. Plus, like you said, his demeanor and veteran
presence in the clubhouse is a huge plus, IMO.

Absolutely. Worth every penny... the Twins took a little flack for this
extension when they signed him a few years ago... I thought it was a good
signing and it's proven to be worth every penny.

I can't disagree emphatically enough. He is a known Muslim, a
socialist, a terrorist, and quite possibly a closet moderate.

Oops. Right newsfroup, wrong thread.
