I'm glad to see him go. He is a top-notch defender, but his offensive
production, for the most part, was lacking. However, I'd love to see
him go to Shea, or just about anywhere else, as a change of scenery
might just be what he needs to boost his offense and make him a really
great, all-around player. He's a great guy, and I think he would help
the Mets out a lot, if they do choose to sign him.

He looks much better than anyone else the Mets have bought in the last eight
years. Of course, that doesn't mean a lot ......

Why do some of the players always say, "I want to come back" etc. but when
they don't get the amount of money they want they pack up and leave. Are
they just trying to look good? If you really want to play somewhere I
suppose you could survive on 5 - 6 million a year. I know I survive on alot
less. If I REALLY wanted to be somewhere other than where I am I could take
less money. Just bugs me that they always....I really want to come
back.....Show them some more money, and long gone. Do you know of very many
poor, money wise, players?

By the time they get to the major leagues they might have 6-8 years in the
minors. Others never get there. I believe the major league minimum is
around 750,000. Consider what it costs to maintain two households, food,
etc. 25 X 30= 750 players majors. 25x30x5=3750 Players in minors. 3,000
players paid 10,000 to 15,000 per year> If they get to the majors, they
have paid there due's. I knew a couple who had cup's of coffee in the
majors. One in particular pitched one inning., said there was no feeling
like it, and he'd remember it all his life.

Cameron hasn't said the money wasn't right-- he wants the security
of a long-term contract, and more than a one year deal, which is what
the M's were offering him this year (as they did with Boone that first year)

Reportedly the money offered by other teams is about the same but the
Mets are offering to pay it to him for 3 years and Oakland may be
offering a 4 year deal (and a little more money). He's a 31 year old
outfielder whose career is based on speed; those contracts would
take him up to the point he can be expected to start declining in the field.

It was $300K for 2003.

Clarification. (A euphemism for nit-picking.):

I don't think that all minor league teams have 25-man rosters. (Someone help
me here.)
Also, there's a lot of coming and going. For instance, 44 players were on
Tacoma's 2002 roster .

BTW, those minor-leaguers get a lot more than $10-15,000 per year. (One of
the professionmal minor league followers might supply the actual figures.)

John

PS It must really be tough to maintain two households on only $300,000 a year.
($300,000 is barely enough to buy a house these days.)

I am from Seattle. My job is in Los Angeles, so that's where I live, but
I'd love to get back to Seattle someday. If I was offered $6 million to do
the job in Seattle, or $8 million to do it here (or any other place for that
matter) I'd take the $8 million in a heartbeat. I'm sure some ballplayers
are insincere when saying they would like to say, but I don't think that
applies to Cammy. And regardless of who means it and who doesn't, I think
it would just be plain stupid to turn down literally millions of dollars
just to stay in the same city.
