Is it just me, or do a few things seem odd with the new mgr.:

1. In his first game as mgr., immediately inserting a slumping/benched
Cintron into the everyday line-up.

2. Even though he requested/demanded a trade and was 'nowhere to be found'
for pinch hitting duites the day he was told that he'd be the back-up 2nd
baseman, Alomar is in almost every game, and Hairston benched/demoted to
back-up.

3. Two starts ago, removed Brandon Webb way to early from the game.

4. Has called up the trouble maker Terrero and inserted him in the everyday
line-up for the ailing Bautista, instead of McCracken.

5. Cannot seem to win more than a couple of games with the same players that
Brenly had, and we were told that they were dropping Brenly because the team
was going in a new direction. Unfortunately, the new direction is down via
the fast lane.

Just my two cents worth.

Who, BTW, is doing a helluva lot better now than when he was in
Brenley's doghouse.

Alomar is for sale to any team that wants him and will give us some
talent back. He only has a one year contract and we would like to get
something for him before he simply becomes a free agent again. You
cannot showcase him sitting on the bench. Remember the trading deadline
is only three weeks away.

Terrero has a large upside as a potential 5 skill player and is a center
fielder by trade. Speaking of which, they need to find out if he can
play at the major league level before they can really trade Finley
and/or Bautista. They also need to see if his anger management course
worked.

I simply don't feel that Brenley should have been let go. He can only
make out lineup cards, try to motivate and get information to the
players. He cannot hit, field or pitch for them.

Mine too. Wink

Who suddenly stopped flailing listlessly at every offering tossed his way.
And who suddenly (if only briefly) stopped letting every routine bouncer
skip by him. Does the word "petulance" ring any bells?

Hairston missed signs in consecutive games to start the likely-brief Al
Pedrique Era. Alomar became the starter because there was no onme else to
take over at second when Pedrique punished Hairston. Reports from various
sources around the country indicate that Alomar can be had by anyone willing
to take him, though.

And tried mightily his first game as manager to yank Randy from a game in
which Unit was in total control. Won't be long before we're all reflecting
wisftully on how much confidence Brenly had in his starters.

In fairness, Brenneman has mentioned that Terrero has also been told that
this is his final opportunity with this organization; if there are any
problems or he fails to produce, he's done.

The club is still two established starting pitchers (allowing Sparks, Good
and Dessens to form a killer middle-innings crew and shipping the current
bunch out to Tucson), a regular catcher and a disciplined righty-hitting
4-hole hitter from contention. Unless trades for Finley and Johnson return
=three= starters (one to replace Randy) as well as the needed position
players -- and Pedrique makes a commitment to his rotation -- the club won't
be improved. It's unlikely to get much worse, though, either, if only
because there's not much room =to= get much worse. <shrug>
