I just buried my Mets flag and Mr. Met Bobblehead doll. Planted my
Nationals Flag over the grave.

Good man. I only wish Gary Carter was there to see it and then you could
just kick him in the balls, too......

After being an original Met fan since "62, attending the first game at Shea
Stadium, being in the military in '69, to rooting for them in abstentia
since '77 I have finally decided to change my allegiance. I live in
Virginia and the Nats are the club. However the Nats are the only DC team I
can root for. I will pull for the Mets when they are not up against the
Nats, but if it is Nats vs. Mets.....sorry Mets, game over.

You've been a Met fan for that long and didn't even nod to the pun I placed
up earlier? I'm hurt Smile.

Its ok. When the Senators left, a lot of Washington fans did things they'd
later regret. Some even drove to Baltimore to watch games. Wink

Now wait a minute. In defense of the people who filled up Memorial Stadium
and turned the Orioles into a for-profit group, it was only after Edward
Bennett Williams bought the club and announced that he was bringing the
Orioles to Washington that this happened.

Same here, except I wasn't a Mets fan until 1969, when I was 9. My first
mlb game was a Senators vs. Yankees doubleheader in 1968 (I remember Frank
Howard homering), but my next game was the famous Seaver "almost perfect"
game against the Cubs and Jimmy Qualls in '69. Being raised by a Brooklyn
native guaranteed I was going to be a Mets fan, and never a Yankees fan.

I would usually catch at least one Mets game a year, at either Shea, Philly,
or Pittsburgh, right up until 2005. I was really surprised how quickly I
switched allegiances... couldn't root against the Nats when I made it to
that RFK Sunday night ESPN game in late April 2005.

So, I too pull for Mets when they aren't playing the Nats. But, I gotta say
that I'm currently very glad they aren't my #1 team. This week has been a
lot less painful, because of it.

My history goes back to 1955 when my father took me to a game at the Polo
Grounds between the Giants and Dodgers. The Dodgers won and I was a Dodger
fan from that point on, or until the announcement that the National League
was coming back to NY. Disappointed my father since he was a Giant fan.
That announcement saved me since I started to move to the Dark Side and root
for the Yankees. The Mets saved me. I did care if they won or lost (lost a
lot) but also enjoyed going to the game to be entertained, and they did
entertain. But something happened to them along the way, they lost that
charm, that way of playing and relating to the fans. They tried to become a
mirror image of the Yankees so they could draw more fans. I think they
needed to go through this type of year to knock the chip off their
collective shoulders and bring them back to earth. They can be good without
the arrogance.

I was one of those. Was in a season ticket group at Memorial and Camden
Yards. Lasted for 7-8 seasons. I have no regrets - saw the All Star game,
saw Cal break the record, and was there the night that the streak ended and
Ryan Minor played 3b. If you wanted to see MLB, that's where you went. I
have zero regrets. Only lasted two seasons at RFK. Quit both for the same
reason - inability of ownership to treat people as valued customers. Camden
Yards is a lot better run than RFK. Best run stadiums - Philly and
Pittsburgh. RFK is the worst. It has nothing to do with the facility -
Memorial Stadium in Baltimore was by far an arm pit compared to RFK. It was
better run. RFK is total unmanaged chaos. I would advise everyone to make
a road trip and see what it feels like to be treaed as a customer. Don't do
Philly for a day game unless you want to bake in the sun. Very hot - no
breeze for the lower bowl. Pittsburgh might be the best little stadium in
MLB.
