Hi everyone,
I used to be a regular on these message boards. Its been a while since
I was here. I'm a commissioner in a league in a game called "Mendoza
Baseball" - (www.mendozabaseball.com). Its an online league with an
auction and keepers. Its played totally differently than anything else
you might have played before.
It uses sabermetric stats. Essentially the pitchers are charged with
runs allowed (not unearned runs) and the hitters have a runs created
formula. Based on your runs allowed and runs created, your team wins
and loses games using the pythagoream theorem from Bill James.
Instead of prize money, you earn revenue. What you spend - is what you
spend. Nobody spends the max, because you are likely to lose money,
even coming in first place. The first place team obviously earns the
most, the last place team earns the least - but it is possible to come
in middle of the pack and with a budget roster earn the most money in
the league.
We have minor leagues and majors - Mendoza tries to faithfully recreate
major league baseball as closely as possible. Players with 3 years or
less of MLB service have their contracts renewed annually for the bid
price. Players with 3-6 years go through arbitration (!) and players
with over 6 years MLB experience can be signed to up to 3 year
contracts or they become free agents.
Everything we do - from waivers to trades - tries to replicate MLB as
closely as possible. My league is an AL-only 10 team league with one
vacancy. In addition, we are looking to expand to 12 teams this year
with an expansion draft. If you are interested, please visit
www.mendozabaseball.com and my league is the Balboni league. Please
send me an email for more info.
