Medal counts mean nothing, folks.
You win an event when you win a gold medal.
China won 51 events- the most of any other country. The U.S. won 36
events.
The U.S. came in second. Get over it already. It's embarrassing to
see this pathetic display of propaganda regarding total medal counts
and "real gold medals".
But I guess that's just business as usual in Corporate U.S. Medialand-
where Old Boy Network elites like Bush, Cheney amd McCain are propped
up as "regular guys who truly care about the average American"... L O

Hey, we also didn't report little incidents like Thursday's massacre
of 124 Tibetan demonstraters by Chinese authorities in Tibet. They
did in Japanese, on Yahoo Japan. I guess the Japanese like to deal
with reality a little more than Americans do. >> Stay informed about: U.S. Media Scrambles to Create Belief That U.S. Won The Ol.. |

A country can't "win" an Olympics. Only those who want to take some
kind of false jingoistic pride from people whom they have nothing in
common with would believe in such flag-waving nonsense. >> Stay informed about: U.S. Media Scrambles to Create Belief That U.S. Won The Ol.. |

<rolls eyes>
Not to denigrate China's achievement, but just to show how empty this whole
"medal count" is. China's "real gold medals" include:
Women's individual archery
3 badminton
4 table tennis
4 women's weightlifting
Men's and women's synchronized diving
Men's and women's 10 meter air pistol
Women's freestyle wrestling, 55kg
Men's trampoline
4 women's tae kwon do/judo
The US gold medals include zero of these niche sports. Well, I suppose I
should count baseball as a niche sport due to geographical limitation
(North/Central/South America and Japan/Taiwan), since I included table
tennis, which is similarly a regional major sport. If you want to count
sailing, add 1 each to US and China.
In truth, the Chinese dominate little niche sports where there is very
little in the way of worldwide competition and prestige. I assume some of
this is due to their silly "119" plan.

This is typical of the US. They sulk. The 100 m has always been the
unofficial measure for the fastest man, but when Bailey won it for
Canada in 96, the US sulked. Johnson went around saying he was faster
cause he finished the 200 in a faster time (by dividing it in 2) and not
taking into account that for the second half of the 200, the runner is
already at a sprint, not starting from blocks.
Bailey was not impressed and a run-off was scheduled. Bailey won it fair
and square after Johnson pulled up with an "injury" the moment he
realized Bailey was running faster than he was. (Johnson claimed one
injury and later it was another...he couldn't keep it straight).
Just a big sulking baby.
China won more gold. They placed first in more events. Get over it.

hmmm I wonder? Let's say one country wins 100 silver & bronze medals,
and some really small 3rd world country happens to win 1 gold in skeet
shooting. Who's the overall winner then?

What is it about the left that brings them such joy in seeing the bad in
everything American? It's one thing to see everyting in a negative
light, it's quite another to be happy about it.

Joy really isn't the emotion associated with, "I told you so," and if
it were, it would still be less than the self-righteous, hypocritical
bloodlust displayed by the right since the late '90's, and far more
justified. >> Stay informed about: U.S. Media Scrambles to Create Belief That U.S. Won The Ol.. |
