Pirates' McLouth wins Gold Glove award
Wednesday, November 05, 2008
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Nate McLouth has been named to the 2008
National League Gold Glove team, becoming the first Pirate to receive
a Gold Glove award since 1993.

McLouth, 27, made 155 appearances in the outfield in 2008 and just one
error. His .997 fielding percentage led NL center fielders and was
second behind Milwaukee's Ryan Braun among all NL outfielders.

The last Pirate to receive the Rawlings Gold Glove award was shortstop
Jay Bell in 1993. Center fielder Andy Van Slyke received it in 1992.

Good for Nate. He was about the only bright spot this year.

Congrats to Nate but that puts him on the "soon-to-be-traded" list of the
Nutting organization. Anyone who performs is traded to assure the
continuation of the Nothing's losing streak!

Can anyone explain this reaction to McClouth's win of the award from
Rotoworld:

"Nate McLouth, Carlos Beltran and Shane Victorino were the NL Gold
Glove outfielders announced on Wednesday.
Also winning were pitcher Greg Maddux, catcher Yadier Molina, first
baseman Adrian Gonzalez, second baseman Brandon Phillips, third
baseman David Wright and shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Wright is just as
bad of a pick as he was last year, but McLouth getting the nod is the
single worst selection that NL managers and coaches have made in at
least a decade. The 27-year-old is probably an above average corner
outfielder, but he was perhaps the game's worst full-time center
fielder last season. Beltran and Chris Young were the NL's best
outfielders. Victorino isn't a bad third choice, though Mike Cameron
also would have been fine. If they wanted to include a corner
outfielder, Randy Winn would have been an option."

Rotoworld is a website that caters to fantasy players so I assume this
is based on some stat or other.

BF, you want to take a shot at this? You see many more Bucs games than
I do.
