Martinez Proves Why He Sucked as a Mgr.

In Saturday's broadcast, rabidly praising Mora's "little ball" skills, Martinez
declaimed that the reason you bunt and steal is because you never know when it
will win you a ball game.

Of course it COULD win you A game. But this ignorance of the overall
statistical value of bunting and stealing indicates why he was and will always
be a terrible manager and student of the game. It will lose you more games than
it will win you.

Having said that, I cannot take my eyes off the TV set, or the field when I
attend, when Mora is up or on base. The guy is exciting, often amazing!

Bunting for the hit because the third baseman is deep is fabulous. Tagging from
first on a long fly ball is something everyone with speed should do all the
time, but only Mora does.

However, breaking for home on a groundball to SS Saturday, or trying to take
third from first on a single to left on Opening Day, make you want to scream.

At least he is exciting and promises to get better. Buck Martinez is stuck on
stupid.
