* Jeff Marquez went 7 scoreless for Trenton tonight (7 IP, 9 H, 0 R,
0 BB, 4 K) He is now 6-3 with a 2.43 ERA (59.1 IP, 58 H, 15 BB, 34
K). Seems the only guy who can't pitch well for this team is
Clemens Smile

* In Charleston, Mitch Hilligoss went 1-for-4. He now has a 32-game
hitting streak. The left-handed hitting third baseman is now at .
326/.370/.418 for the season. He has shown some gap power (12
doubles, 2 triples but no home runs). He will be 22 in June.

Patterson seems like he's striking out an awful lot of batters in the
pen also - 4 in 2 IP yesterday.

I assume they are holding him back because of Vechionacci, who is really
skilled with the glove, but still isn't hitting. Maybe they should swap
spots or jump him to Trenton, where they don't have a real 3B prospect.

Wonder what they see in Edwar Ramirez that they don't see in
Patterson. I would have expected them to move Patterson up by now.

Neil was all over this pick last year. Not sure what he is
defensively, but third base is a new position. He was drafted as a
SS. I seriously think that they are going to make a determination
once the streak ends. I don't think they want to move him while he is
in the midst of a big streak like this.

I'm shocked he's still healthy let alone hitting a little this
season. When they drafted him, Oppenheimer said in an interview with
Pinstripesplus that they didn't think he had the range to be a ML
shortstop. In an interview with Pinstripesplus, Mitch said the
coaching staff had asked to work at 2B a little during the
shortseason. He's a polished college hitter who can spray line
drives, but I'm not sure if he has the power necessary for a starting
3B. My guess last year was that he'd be a utility infielder with a
decent bat. We'll see if he develops power toward the end of his
development curve. They can use him but I think they have to promote
him as needs to face some top pitching in FSL. I just started my
subscription to Milb.tv and if I have time this week, I'll try to
catch a snippet of Charleston games.

34. Single in the first AB of the game today. The league record is 35 by
former Yankees minor-leaguer Scott Seabol.
