Or would he have been disabled by beanballs for showing up the other
team so drastically?

That kind of grandstanding doesn't belong in baseball. I assume he
should be watching out next season.

In general, I agree with you about grandstanding but this looked to me
like it could be exuberance. Clearly it can be interpreted in several
ways.
