Note that in my post I said that speed players obviously don't lose their
speed
at the same times, but like everyone, they will eventually lose it. The
question
is, are you willing to invest a lot of money and take the risk that a 34
year old
speed player will maintain that speed for the length of a long term
contract. I
wouldn't take that risk.
OTOH, it would be far less risky, had someone considered taking on Ichiro
as a half-season rental., since it would seem ridiculously unlikely that
he'd
lose his speed over the course of a single half-season.
Sorry, much as I like Ichiro, I'd rather stick with the younger, speedy
players
that we already have in the system, if we're talking about long term
investments.
