Nats honor fans who died in stadium shuttle bus

WASHINGTON (AP)—The Washington Nationals held a moment of silence
Sunday for two fans who died on a team-promoted shuttle bus on the way
to a game.

Police say the fans were standing on the upper deck of an open-top
double-decker bus on the way to Friday night’s game against the
Houston Astros when their heads struck the bottom of an underpass.

Joshua Stoll, 24, of Sterling, Va., died shortly after the accident.
Michael Feiock, 35, of Centreville, Va., died at a hospital Saturday.

The bus, owned by private company Open Top Sightseeing, is part of a
fleet contracted by the Nationals to carry fans to Nationals Park from
the parking lot at the team’s old home, RFK Stadium. The service was
implemented when the new ballpark opened this season because of a lack
of sufficient parking spaces in the area.

There were 16 people onboard the bus. None of the other fans were
injured.

Nationals president Stan Kasten said the team was “terribly saddened”
by the accident.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all involved,” he
said.

I have to ask who thought it was a good idea to use an open air bus on
a route with overpasses on it? The blame for this tragedy rests only
on the shoulders of the genius who approved this mode of
transportation for this particular trip.

What a MORONIC post. The blame for this tragedy rests only on the
shoulders of the two geniuses who chose to stand up with an overpass
approaching.

Nothing else rests on their shoulders anymore....

Why? Is there evidence that there was an indicator on the bus
that the bus was approaching an overpass? It's not like they
were driving the bus and responsible for noticing the road
signs.

Why isn't it the bus driver's fault for not making sure that the
passengers were not standing before going under the overpass?

You mean like not using a double decker bus when there was even
a possibility that a passenger could get injured? It's not like
the passengers climbed on top of the roof of the bus. They were
presumably sitting legally on the top deck. There should have
been way more clearance than there obviously was if simply
standing up caused them to get hit.

You said it Hank. This has "criminal negligence" written all over it,
and when the civil servants prove too lazy to do their job and jail the
murderers, it has "big fat lawsuit" written all over it. If the
murderers won't be imprisoned for life, he should have every asset he
owns given to the victim's survivors, and be forced to live on the
street.

Starting next January, you and your kind will be executed for murder.
