Has anyone noticed how Paul Konerko has went into
the tank, since mouthing off about Frank Thomas last
season?

His first half in 2002:

..328, 20 homers, 71 rbi's.

Then he spewed about the White-Sox being "his" team
and that Frank Thomas wasn't a part of it.

His second half of 2002 after the comments:

..270, 7 homers, 33 rbi's.

And now he's hitting .199 with 5 homers, a total disgrace,
while raking in $6.25 million (more than Frank Thomas!?).

I would like to know what Konerko was thinking when he
decided to take on Big Frank. Frank is only going to be a
first ballot HOFer and holds practically every record in team
history. That would be like Rueben Sierra joining the 1927
Yankees and ripping Babe Ruth. It just isn't right. You
don't call out a living legend. And now we see the fallout of
it.

Also, I don't understand the reasoning of DH'ing Thomas.
He's hitting about .500 when playing the field. My only guess
is that they're trying to get Konerko going so they can trade
him.

Dean

Sounds like Paulie was taking advantage of not having a diminished brain
activity clause in his contract.

I don't know...the way I remember it... Frank was in one of his "big
pain-in-the-ass" moods and somebody needed to tell him that his conduct was
bringing down the team. It seems that Konerko was appointed or took on the
responsibility himself. I don't seem to remember him being arrogant about
or particularly rude about it and the general consensus was that it was
something that somebody had to do.
