Well, he's certainly got keeper value. No doubt about that. Just ask
yourself what you think he'd go for next year - if there's no injury
before then it will sure as hell be more than $17, especially with
inflation.
That said, there's no reason to think he won't be one of the top NL
starters the rest of the year. So what would be reasonable for him?
If you wouldn't need a starter back, I could see something like Brown
and a throw-in hitter for A) Lofton and Isringhausen, B) Pierre and a
Kolb/Lincoln/Stanton type, or C) Smoltz/Gagne and Womack.
Those are the types of deals which come to mind...This late in the
season, if someone is dumping, you should definitely get more.
Assuming Brown's worth $30 here on out, I'd be looking for $50+ of
value for him. Thus the above deals (assuming all the players you'd
be getting are full-priced).
