We've been watching Kevein Towers do this for more than a decade now,
but it is still amazing.

He swoops down on pitchers cast-off by other teams, gets them the
right coaching and discipline and VOILA ! they re-gain their form and
begin to excell.

The Latest two Kevin Towers gols Nuggets hit it big for San Diego
this week in the Bay Area:

JOSH BANKS

* Oh Nothin'... just a complete game 6-hitter on the road, beating
the Giants 5-1.

How'd he get there? You has to read the agate-sized type under
"Transactions" back in April of this year:

April 23: Claimed pitcher Josh Banks off waivers
from the Toronto Blue Jays and assigned him to
Portland of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

After a month at Randy Ready Ranch, Banks was called up when
Chris Young went on the DL on May 22. Banks was stellar in two
long-relief jobs (6 shutout IP vs Reds in the 18 inning game) and
earned the start last night. Oh yeah, he'll get more.

CHA SEUNG BAEK

The Korean national was obtained May 29th from the Mariners in
exchange for pitcher Jared Wells.

In his Padre debut on May 30, he struck out the side against SF
and picked up the win when San Diego tallied 4 in the 13th.

As Giant batters lunged at his assortment of baffling deliveries,
Giants' broadcaster Duane Kiper offered this witty account of
Cha's move from Seattle:

"The Mariners said, 'we don't like a guy who throws
in the mid-90s, has a disappearing change-up and
throws a splitter."

At least twice, Giant batters swung at pitches that bounced in the
dirt, they were so fooled by Cha's off-speed stufff.

Salary: This guy is another KT bargain special at $392,000 !

If only if he could find hitting the way he finds pitching....

I bag on our current braintrust a lot, don't like Alderson, get rid of
DePodesta, hell find a new owner, but Towers has got the knack for
finding pitching and then letting Balsley work with them. KT
definitely needs to stay.
