Saw a teaser at ESPN, but it was an insider article. A google blog search
found this:

"Offensively, he's actually proven to be too selective " is the part of
the article that bemused me the most.

It's a statement that sounds a little funny on its surface, but I can see
where a hitter could be too selective, waiting for the perfect pitch that
might never come while letting good pitches go by. Still, I haven't see KJ's
ABs this year to be able to judge.

I am a frikkin genius. I started the "Official Martin Prado for starting
second baseman" thread in April, right on this board, and that was before
Kelly dropped that pop-up against Philly. And I finished that thread at the
same time, I believe. Now look at this johnny-come-lately jumping on the
bandwagon. Also, I believe I was the only frikkin genius here to correctly
point out that the Teixeira trade would work out badly for the Braves,
specifically because of his contract status. And don't give me any guff, we
lost on that trade. What else? Hampton's groin, I called that one. Now I
say if Boston wants Kotsay and we can get him through waivers and get
something for him, great, he's not coming back next year anyway. And,
(going way out on a limb here with no net), I predict McCann will be back
next season. So there.

Other than the fact that Mark Kotsay has probably already gotten
through waivers and thus might be available in a trade, I see very
little in the blog that seems to have a grain of truth. Well, Adam
Dunn's statistics might be accurate.

I don't dispute that Kelly Johnson may be gone this off-season, it
depends on how thoroughly the Braves want to overhaul things (if at
all). The reasons listed though really don't seem to make much sense.

Too selective? He has 3.74 P/PA. Utley - 3.92. Uggla - 4.11. Actually KJ
is 10 among 18 qualifiers in P/PA (and about 8-10 positions in every
important ranking: RC27, OPS, you name it). Oh, and Prado is even more
selective - 3.83 P/PA. Of course it is possible that pitchers throw
"fatter" to KJ than to other 2Bs, including Prado.

KJ seems to be an average MLB 2B. Now there is a question, what's easier
(and more cost effective) to do. To get an above average 2B, or an above
average OF.
