JM did much better in MVP voting than in CY voting!! He had a 5th, 6th,
and 9th place finish in MVP but the best he ever did in CY was an 8th
in 1971 according to baseballreference.com. I know the roseboro
incident and the presence of pitchers like koufax and gibson cost him
votes, but that doesn't explain why he did better in MVP voting than in
CY voting.

They only had 1st place votes for CY until 1970, whereas MVP voting
gave points for 2nd, 3rd, etc.

That's a lie. Most years in the 60s, there were 3 or 4 guys who got
votes for the CY. JM had several fantastic seasons where he should have
won or at least got some votes. I realize from 56 thru 66 there was
only one CY given for all of MLB and that is a small part of the
reason for marichal's poor showing.

You're an idiot.

Then again, with that Usenet alias, no reason to expect otherwise.

Marichal never got any first-place votes for MVP, either.
