Heard from a usually reliable source (sportswriter Steve Bisheff) that he is
looking fat and slow in spring training, though I have not seen any games
nor followed in the sports page. In an article in the LA Times a few weeks
back he talked about how he knows how to "carry the weight", and that he
thought his hitting problems last year were due to being too light. This
does not sound promising. Anyone seen him play yet?

I watched the game today against the cards, he didn't look any
different to me, but I was 2,000 miles away
I noticed he was the only one who wasn't tearing the cover off the
ball. I'm getting a bad feeling about this signing

It's a good reason they kept Ethier. Delwyn Young could also be very good.
Even Joe Torre said the team had so much major league talent, so they'll
have to make the most of it.

Jones, however could still improve.

While I haven't seen him this year, he's been pretty heavy for years -
last year *was* one of his lighter recent years. I think in the mind's
eye, a lot of people still look at him like it was 7 or 8 years ago when
he was fairly slim and a terrific centerfielder.

I saw him - Jones looked a bit heavy, and in a continuing trend from
last year, doesn't seem to cover the ground in center as well as he used
to. He did hit a clutch homer against the O's in Fort Lauderdale as the
DH, which is at least somewhat encouraging.
