Let's not forget how deep the starters are going into the game...3,
sometimes 4 innings.

\Unfortunately, the Angels--that world class lineup filled with at
least 7 hall of fame sluggers--has one more shot at our world class
middle relief bullpen.

The bullpen is shot. Look at their workload (Proctor, Villone and Mo
are 1,2, and 4 in IP while Farnsworth is 3 in games appeared in the
AL). The bullpen carried this team until August. Dotel just cannot
pitch two days in a row. His stuff is so inconsistent right now that
Joe has to spot him every other day. They just have to get through
next week before the reinforcements arrive for the bullpen. Joe has to
start resting Villone and Proctor at this point. Villone's ERA jumped
from 2.20 to over three in the last five outings. And he was throwing
30, 40 pitches each time out on consecutive days. No one can manage
that sort of workload these days.

You mean the guys with their pitching arms arms dangling by a tendon?
Poor Villone has been pitching nearly everyday. And besides, whatever the
bullpen may do, it doesn't diminish Damon's homerun.
