Man, what the hell has this franchise done to us? Kid comes up from the
minors and in his first Major League game, actually lives up to his
clippings...and then some.
And not a peep about it here.
I certainly don't expect a performance like that every night :^) but
what a fine way to announce one's arrival.
Congrats, Jay.

I don't know what you want us to say.
Did anybody here not believe in Jay Bruce?
I got to see him play everywhere but with the lookouts and he looked
great at every step of the way. The kid hasn't made an out yet.

I don't want you to say anything in particular. It just seemed odd that
nobody said *anything*. Meanwhile, most of us, myself included, run to
the computer to bitch about every last minute detail of the bad stuff.
As I suggested, I'm not putting that mindset on us, but on what the
franchise has done to us the past decade+.

One word...........Deion! Remember the night Babe Sanders came back up with
the Reds?
Seriously, I don't want to jinx the kid. I can't say that I'm shocked or
surprised that the kid would burst into the show with a big night.

That's not what I was referring to. I'm speaking of my 2008 outfield vs.
Wayne's. But it's old news and unfortunately not reversible. >> Stay informed about: Jay Bruce fan club |

The circumstances down here were, Dusty didn't want to talk about Jay Bruce.
It wasn't as extreme, but reminded me of Romeo Crennel refusing to call
Brady Quinn by his name. It was more of 'That Kid'.
Dusty's comments led me to believe that he came to Sarasota with the thought
of Bruce starting the year in Louisville. Did that come from the top down?
I don't know. >> Stay informed about: Jay Bruce fan club |

You know what gets me. They keep saying "we don't want to put pressure
on the kid". Like somehow there is a magic way to avoid pressure.
I like the pressure this kid puts on Griffey. Like driving a rusty
nail into an old apple tree.

Well, I'm not going to go that far. If he'd made himself impossible to
ignore in the spring, I think they may have brought him north.

Where would this team be? Probably not too far removed from where it is.
I don't think Patterson kept Bruce from making the team. In fact, it's
probably more likely that Patterson was signed because Bruce wasn't
coming North than the other way around.

And that's what I am OK with. They may not have done it for the same
reason I would have, but in the end, it's the same result. Bruce goes
down and proves himself for a bit longer at AAA and earns his recall.
If he'd played all last year at AAA and tore 'em up, I would have been
more of the mind he had "nothing left to prove" there.
Hopefully he's hit the Majors at just the right time, and for keeps.

Yeah, his success at the various levels doesn't make him appear real
fragile. Your first game in the majors will always be your first game in
the majors. Like Kevin says, I think it was financial more than anything.
I am inclined to believe that Dusty was told in March, Bruce will not be on
the opening day roster. >> Stay informed about: Jay Bruce fan club |
