If that's Leyland's idea of "shaking things up" in Detroit, it's
just too little, too late, IMO.

Putting Shef in left field is a boneheaded move, too. The guy is old,
slow, and an injury waiting to happen, IMO.

There's what...3 months of baseball left in the season? That's not too late
by any stretch of the imagination.

Dumb, dumb move.

On another note, they should've never let Casey go.

True. But honestly, what can you see Leyland/Dombrowski doing
that will make that much of an impact this season?

Trading away Inge for a halfway decent reliever?

Going for broke and signing Barry Bonds?

Quietly passing around steroids to the entire team? Wink

Yep. I don't imagine it will last for very long. Shef will hurt
himself or become a liability in the field before too long.

>On another note, they should've never let Casey go.

Yes, in his limited play with Boston, he is doing nicely. The Tigers
could have used him around this season.

Getting rid of J. Jones and Grilli was a decent start. Pitching would have
to be addressed, but trying to pluck a pitcher from a team that's doing well
is nearly impossible.

They're struggling right now with 1st and 3rd bases defensively. Who goes
where? I can see Cabrera and Guillen right now..."Where am I playing today
Skip?" That isn't cutting it for me. They don't have a decent first
baseman in the bunch and Inge's value is felt more at 3rd base than catcher
or outfield. He's still not very good at all with the bat, but he's a
better 3rd baseman as less hits are allowed down 3rd base line when he's
playing there. He's not worth the $6.2 Mil he's being paid this year, but a
solid 3rd base he'd be. Cabrera isn't mobile enough to grab those and
Guillen is only a little better (though he's got a strong arm). Casey
would've been an excellent fit at 1st. I'd offer Polanco and Sheffield in a
trade for a reliever and put Guillen at 2nd. Now before anyone goes and
gets their undies all bunched up over Sheff, I'll concede before arguments
are tossed around that he's over the hill and would be a liability on any
team, but stranger things have happened and you never know if someone would
want him anyways. It's hard to offer Guillen in a trade when he's leading
the team with a .313. There you go...move Inge to 3rd, Cabrera to DH, get
rid of Sheffield, trade Polanco, and move Guillen to 2nd. I think that
would impact some of the base hits being allowed, thus relieving a little
pressure on the pitchers.

> Trading away Inge for a halfway decent reliever?

Hmmm...he's certainly tailed off from where he was earlier in the season.

> Going for broke and signing Barry Bonds?

HUGE MISTAKE, that would be. Leave him and his troubles where they are.

> Quietly passing around steroids to the entire team? Wink

Well, you see what's happened to Pudge and Sheff.

Trade him or release him by the end of the weekend.

I've always been a fan of his. He's gotta be one of the most awkward
players in the league, but they don't give awards for style.

Carlos just let one get down 3rd base line...in case anyone is reading this.

Exactly!

They will probably break .500, eventually, but I'm not so sure they will win
the ALC this season. Not with that pitching, defense, and occasionally ICE
cold offense.

The Tigers are the $130+ million FLOP of the season so far, IMO.
