Playing Jacque Jones in hopes that he'll break out of a slump and increase his trade value is ludicrous! Hendry and the "brass" should rid Piniella of the ball and chain immediately.

Buying teams look for bargains and frequently believe that a slumping player may just need a change of scenery; however, he is further entrenching himself and confirming the belief that he might not be able to hit anymore.

Get rid of him and bring up Geovanny Soto or Jake Fox to replace him. Fox would be good off the bench and could serve in the outfield, first base and emergency catcher. Soto is a good defensive catcher that can play first base. The Iowa gang has some pretty good players.

They'd be a nice addition to compliment the roster.

With Ward and Ramirez on the DL for a limited time, I don't think the
Cubs want to add more players. I'm more worried about losing
Fontenot in a roster crunch than in new blood. Fox needs to work
on his catching and Soto isn't the answer to anything.

The key moment ahead comes when Floyd is ready to play again. His
playing time must come at the expense of Pie or Jones. That should
be an easy choice. And when Ward comes back, Jones isn't even a
useful bench player.

Unfortunately, Hendry is not about to release Jones any time soon and
I think any trade would require the Cubs to pay more of the Jones salary
than they are willing to at this time. We may see a battle of wills
between Hendry and Piniella. Hendry has always been willing to absorb
a few losses to save a few million but I suspect he won't live with an
unhappy clubhouse - Jones makes a quick exit.

I agree with you. At the same time, I'd sure like to see a right-handed bat off the bench that could play several positions and a 3rd catcher would certainly provide some much needed flexibility with the catchers, pinch-hitting and player substitutions.

They could shop him around as having the arm of a second baseman.

Piniella sticks with the veteran players sometimes too long. I think
if they did bring up som one it might give Jones the impudess to get
his game together.
