3 hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning. At this point, the worst pitcher
on the roster.

This is funny....I love it! Funny and sad at the same time but hey....this
is our premier closer.

The cool thing about this is that we have our next "premier" closer waiting
in the minors chomping at the bit waiting for Lizzy's reign to FINALLY be
over, each blow save for Lizzy is one step closer to getting this loser out
of baseball.

5 BLOWN SAVES - 1(3 total) LOSS APRIL 22ND

Who is going to be brought up Chris Perez or Ron Flores?

Oh brother. Calling Izzy a "loser" is like calling you a "Cardinals
fan." Neither sounds right.

You almost got that right....

Oh brother. Calling Izzy a "closer" is like calling John a Cardinals fan.

The real solution is to let these guys like Wainwright and Wellemeyer stay
in longer. That's the one thing I don't understand about LaRussa (and
probably every major league manager these days) - he's too much into the
computer stats when it especially comes to pitching.

Have you seen what happens when they leave Wellemeyer in beyond 5 or
6 ????????????????????????/

Those guys are the exception. You see maybe 1 or 2 pitchers of that
calibre per year. I'm pulling that number out of the air, but I bet
that I'm close. If there were an abundance of pitchers like them, the
bullpen would be a minimum wage pre-glue factory for spent pitchers.

Pitch counts are very, very important if you want those guys to be around
later in the year and next year.

I understand to a point, and I know that's the pitching "mentality" these
days in general and I'm talking "old school," but what about pitchers of the
past? Bob Gibson, Warren Spahn, Nolan Ryan, et al - they seemed to have
pretty long careers and equally impressive complete game totals. Didn't
seem to halt their longevity.

Bottom line is - win the game. If the guys that follow them aren't getting
guys out, better leave the starters in. At least maybe an extra inning or
so.

Seems to me, one game doth not a season make in May/June/July. With
hindsight maybe, but you need your pitchers in August and September too, and
in the post-sesaon if you're fortunate enough to get there.

BTW, I am still amazed by the accomplishments of Nolan Ryan. I once went to
a game for no other reason than that he was pitching that day. That was the
only time I ever went to see a player, not necessarily the game..

Should and did are not the same. I bet Lohse can't do 8 jumping jacks
on a good day.

Those guys are the exception, however. For every Gibson or Ryan that
can throw 140+ pitches, there were lots of guys who blew their arms
out by the time they were 30 and were never heard from again.
