Randy was (and remains) frustrated not with being in Arizona, but with
losing. Nearing 41, he naturally realizes that his days as a professional
athlete may well be very short, and the window for winning is getting
smaller all the time. To his credit, not his detriment, he is speaking
openly and honestly with the media and the public about that frustration.
(Perhaps if he were to more vocally vent that frustration in exhorting his
teammates to stop acting like they're playing for Chico's Bail Bonds,
though, he might find that window cracking open a bit further.)
Loathe though I am to speak ill of a former schoolmate (Go Bosco Braves!),
Nomar was hardly a "class" act in his dealings after nearly being traded in
January. Or does spending two months milking an Achilles "injury" that
typically impinges on an athlete's mobility for no more than a week qualify
as "class"? Nomar is an introvert. That's certainly his right. But to
misread his introvert's passive-aggressiveness as anything other than what
it is does no justice either to Garciaparra or to anyone to whom he is being
compared.
