I didn't see the interview, but it seems to me that Randy's point was if
the D-Backs don't win with their young talent, it's kind of pointless to
keep a very expensive superstar pitcher on their roster. That's
especially true when the general managers of contending teams would give
their souls, kidneys, eye teeth and first-born kids to get a pitcher of
Randy's caliber, and he knows it.
I think he was making the point to the D-Backs front office that he'd be
willing to consider a trade if they're lousy and out of contention by the
trade deadline.
But, since I didn't see the interview, I don't know for certain.
