Been gone so maybe I missed the answer. Try again. What does the infield
fly rule say? Some in the group I was with insisted that it said the batter
was automatically out. A couple of others thought that it said that the
runners couldn't run unless there were two outs. I thought it said simply
that the runners "did not have to run" so that only the batter was out
because two can't occupy the same base. Seems that a game lately was lost
because the defense dropped an infield fly with two outs and two runs scored
losing the game. Who's right and can anyone recall that game....

Infield Fly Rule with Hit-and-Run - I need some help understanding the infield fly rule as it applies to a hit-and-run where the batter hits a popup to the infield. If I'm reading the OBR correctly, once the infield fly rule is invoked, the baserunners may stay at their original bag..

the infield fly rule for a newbie to baseball - still don'.. - guys - i've been watching baseball for a couple of years - so forgive the seemingly basic question: I read the umpire calls the infield fly and the batter is out, but without the possibility of a force at 2nd. I understand why this is needed to prevent....

Infield fly - Can someone straighten me out on the infield fly rule. As I understand it, all it says is that when the ump calls an infield fly, the runners do not have to run. It doesn't mean automatically that the batter is out. That comes when the guy on first..

Infield fly judgement - For the infield fly rule to be applied, there must be a definition of where the infield ends and the outfield begins. Where is that? The line between the bases? FoggyTown Red Sox fan since 1955
